Citrus Paradisii (Grapefruit Oil)
This delicious essential oil is extracted from the peel of the fresh fruit by expression (application of pressure). Unlike some essential oils, the scent is instantly recognisable as grapefruit.
I mainly use grapefruit essential oil in my massage blends as an instantly uplifting, refreshing addition to the blend. It's a happy smell and is wonderful to balance and uplift a floral or woody blend.
Grapefruit essential oil is a safe essential oil to use, only being phototoxic if extracted by steam distillation - take note of the safety guidance below when using essential oils. Consult with a qualified Clinical Aromatherapist when using essential oils at home for safe quantities in your skincare products or if you have health conditions that could be contraindicated.
Benefits
An astringent, therefore useful for oily, congested, acne-prone skin. Tones the skin.
A diuretic, making it useful for water retention and oedema.
Uplifting and a general tonic - especially useful for jet lag, morning fatigue, general tiredness, and muscle fatigue.
Reviving and revitalising - good for stress, depression, and headaches.
Fun fact - as with other citrus oils, grapefruit is high in vitamin C and used as protection against infectious illnesses.
